They announced the server transition in the last update (7.3), the transparency isn’t lost since the updates are just binary files. They said it is related to greater download speeds and probably the iodé team pays much money due to the traffic of the updates.
So the SHA256 from the Source Binary’s on Gitlab (iodé) should match those on the files available from the Brax Servers hosted files… just faster to download, and probably less expensive to host.
On gitlab you have both SHA and signatures, those should match if it’s the same build and the files remain on gitlab too.
Note that the binary depends on the toolchain and the compilation parameters. I don’t know whether it will be just a copy or some different build.
I updated to 7.4 beta (March 29th), still the stable updates fail to connect but there is an extra option to check for beta updates which works.
This is interesting indeed. At the end, it seems to be a general issue affecting all Brax3 right?
At some version they changed the update look up address in the updater but that’s not important, you can update manually.
What server address is it getting the beta updates from that is working?
They did (as you indicated in your announcement thread) say that ‘future’ releases (those coming after 7.3) would be hosted on Brax servers, so maybe that starts with 7.4 Beta, and anyone on earlier releases will have to manually update… maybe the new Updater App in 7.4 stable will automatically drive updates to the correct hosting servers for the update levels needed (in the order/sequence required) depending on where/what release the phone OS is currently at?
the LogCat shows,
W Utils : Server URL for the Updater is https://ota.iode.tech/beta/brax3.json
D UpdatesActivity: Checking https://ota.iode.tech/beta/brax3.json
In any case, I guess this will hopefully fixed by the team before next version update. I can’t imagine non tech people to download and apply a manual update…
Just for your information: I tried uninstalling the “Updater” app, restarted the device and then reinstalled the app. But it didn’t make any difference… It is still not possible to check for system updates on version 7.3…
Thanks for the update stanwood… I would have to believe that having a working iodéOS Updater app would be a priority for the folks at Brax… I guess since manual updates can be done it isn’t a priority.
Thank you Nibbana. Well, I’m not sure if someone did open a ticket for this issue (Gitlab? Github?)
Also, we would need a “How to” guide to do so. Even myself I would not be pretty sure how to handle a manual update on the very right way.
I guess I first need to regularly check if a 7.4-brax3-ota.zip is available here: brax3 · master · ota / release · GitLab
Then, I would need to download that file and place it in the “Download” section on the device, and then apply the manual update. I don’t remember if we first need to unzip the file (?)
Second thing is the Recovery Image: I guess we need to do this separately using the 7.4-brax3-recovery.img, but then we have to use a fastboot command to flash the recovery right? Is this still possible with the locked bootloader?
So yes, it’s possible to handle an OTA update manually, but this is not so easy for the “general public”….
Hi stanwood,
you don’t have to unzip the file, just download, then direct the Updater App via the manual update drop down…
There has been new activity at: download.os-source.co so they are preparing it for the 7.4 Release I think for sure… (Since there is a 7.4 Folder)
Thank you for your input. Pretty nice… And regarding the recovery image, do you know how to install it as well? (Using the normal updater it also updates the recovery img.)
Although the json file currently indicates “romtype”: “UNOFFICIAL”, and they have not placed the actual zip file up yet
No, I have not actually activated my Brax3 yet (As far as connecting it to T-Mobile)… I am still using my Brax2… if it aint broke, don’t fix it kind of thing… was waiting until the Brax3 had been worked over for awhile before diving in… looks like 7.4 might be the release that feels comfortable… I will have to look over the posted instructions on updating the recovery image… since recovering to the much older original version would require so many updates to get the phone current… shouldn’t be that difficult… probably just connecting phone to a PC/Laptop and flashing or something.
Hello everyone,
The Brax3 phone. Well, what can I say. After a few months of IodeOS use I am not happy.
I saw that many of you posted about this issue already so sorry about repeating parts or all that has been said already.
IodeOS keeps giving me problems. The system feels like it’s not optimized and the system updates stopped working as in when you press the button in the top right corner, it instantly gives you the message ‘The update check failed. Please check your internet connection and try again later’. I has been an ongoing issue for some time now. Does anybody know what is going on?

As far as I can tell, it appears Brax has been in the process of preparing to host updates and OS packages on it’s servers rather than where they have been hosted in the past. They had indicated in the last update (7.3) that it would be the last update to be hosted on the previous servers. The updated 7.3 version seems to be pointing update requests to the newer Brax server download.os-source.co of which has yet to have been ‘Activated’ for the purpose of Brax3 updates, most likely due to version 7.4 not being ready for release yet.
What software version are you currently running?
Thanks bud. This does make sense. Apparently I’ve missed this one. Currently I’m running version 7.3.
