My Iode Browser has stopped working

My Iode browser has stopped working for some reason. It has been working just fine but now when I tap the icon it expands to full screen momentarily as if it is going to open but then immediately collapses back to the icon again.
The phone is on Version 6.3 Android 15 26 May 2025 which is what it arrived with out of the box. When I click Updater there is a box saying Iode 7.1 21 December 2025 1.4 GB. When I click on INFO it gives the message:
Update blocked
This Update cannot be installed using the updater app. Please read
wiki.lineageos.org/devices/brax3/upgrade
for more information.
This looks like a hyper-link but it doesn’t work, it’s unresponsive. So I manually typed it into Brave browser on my computer and it says Page Not Found
When I manually click Devices on that website the Brax3 is not shown - just not there.
What’s going on?
I seem to have arrived in a dead end street with this problem. Is the Iode Browser integral to the IodeOS? Do I have to update the OS to the latest version to get the Browser working? If I can’t use the Updater app to do this where do I go from here when the INFO page says Page Not Found?
I have asked the same question on the Brax.Me website to no avail so hoping somebody here can help. Thank you.

Leave the browser for later, it will probably be fixed automatically after the upgrade.

install this transitional updater to get 7.2, I think you can go directly to that version, fixes/Updater-v6-to-v7.apk · master · ota / ota · GitLab

if it still doesn’t work download the update manually and do a local update tapping the 3 dots upper right corner of the updater, brax3/iode-7.2-20260131-brax3-ota.zip · master · ota / release · GitLab

after upgrading remove the transitional updater, hold on the updater icon > App info > 3 dots upper right > uninstall

There is a specific article in the News app announcing version 7.0 that advises the correct way to update from v6.x to version 7.x - also a quick search here on the forum about updating to 7.0 you would find the detailed post explaining the special steps required to update from the iodeOS team.

Thank you for your help George! It took several goes to work and when it didn’t work I had to do a factory reset because everything had locked up and was unresponsive. On the next attempt it finally worked - yeehah! What a relief. Persistence paid off. When I click on the updater icon it is now showing IodeOS 7.2 Android 16 and No new updates found. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated!

There was another thing to try that we discovered accidentally in a previous post but since you fixed it’s not important now.

Hi George,
Unfortunately, my sense of victory was short-lived! For some reason I cannot connect to the internet via 4G data. I’m in the UK and I’m with Vodafone. I can make and receive calls and texts but the phone absolutely refuses to connect to the internet. I’ve double-checked all the obvious settings are correctly selected but no joy. No problem at all connecting via my home wi-fi but the moment I am out of range the connection drops and does not get taken up by 4G data. This makes a nonsense of having a mobile phone if I can only use it at home! Is anybody else having a similar problem, especially Brax3 owners in the UK? Never had this problem with my previous normy phone. Any ideas and/or suggestions would be gratefully received. Thank you George.

It’s the APN settings,

Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > APN

The settings can be found on the website of the carrier, probably it’s just “internet” in the APN field.

If it’s correct delete the APN and add it again with the same settings.

Thank you for the speedy reply George! You’re a star! The pre-pay button had been selected by default, I guess when I did the 7.2 update. I clicked on the UK Contract option and hey presto it worked! I’ll have to double check again when I’m away from home to be absolutely sure but I’ve turned off the wi-fi on the phone and it’s still connected to the internet so I’m pretty sure that has indeed fixed it. Thanks again George, I really appreciate your help.

You’ll probably have to do this after every update.

Thanks for that tip George. Bit by bit I’m learning and I guess this is all part of the Open Source journey. Frustrating at the time but rather rewarding when the suggested solution works a treat!

At some point you may hit something unsolvable like the NFC payments(only possible through the Garmin wallet), the official banking app (though you can login through the browser) or carrier incompatibility which mostly concerns the USA.

I’ve been experiencing the same issue trying to update from 6.3 and getting the same message. Although the fix was published here months ago, I wanted to wait and see if someone else would bring this to attention before I tried to manually update the updater in order to update the operating system. I will follow up on this post with my results soon

One thing I wanted to ask before I attempted to update:

Can I skip all the previous update versions and go directly to the latest, (7.1 in this case) or is it required to install each version one after the other until I finally arrive to the latest version?

You can go directly to 7.1 or 7.2

Hi George,
As you know I went directly to 7.2 from 6.3 and it seemed to work just fine. However, at the risk of introducing a note of doubt and caution, I have to report that since I upgraded to 7.2 my phone has on several occasions gone through a totally random restart for no apparent reason. On the last two occasions it has given the error message that other people have spoken about where it says “Your device is corrupt. It cannot be trusted and may not work properly etc..” Could this be a bug in the 7.2 update or is it being caused by something else? I managed to get it going again by repeatedly holding down the power key but with the second occasion being more difficult than the first, it’s beginning to feel like it will only be a matter of time before it refuses to start again. Has there been any update on the news about this fault that I have missed? Many thanks.

This is a hardware problem, talk to Plamen.

Oh dear, this doesn’t sound good! How do I write a direct message to Plamen please?

Use the “@” symbol, new users can’t send messages, he logs in every some days and reads the topics.

and this is the reason I wait.

Since the first procedure wouldn’t allow the package manager to download the update file, I had to use the second procedure @george mentioned above to manually install 7.2, which successfully installed with no issues (so far). After that, I uninstalled the transitional updater. Now, I have the zip file of the OS in my download folder. Is there any reason that I would have to keep this file, or should I just delete it to make some space.
