Reboots while sleeping

No, it’s general general

Settings > Battery > Charging control

It’s very random for me too but since I have no lock or SIM I can’t even notice it, it probably started happening with 7.x

Having been away from the forum for a while, I noticed this thread and my phone also freezes up, gets diagonal lines and then restarts. It has done so many times both while using the phone and when just sitting idle on my desk.

Hopefully it’s not a defect, just a software glitch that a future update will fix.

I guess I will have to revisit the forum a little more often to check if it gets resolved without having to do a factory reset.

Hello, I think you could reproduce the random reboot issue doing progressive tests, from a basically configured phone to a somehow complex one (browser extensions, VPN, short screen timeout …), and when reproduced make a binary search. It could be somehow useful for Vincent

What is the “binary search”?

Starting from a basic configuration, a series of tests can be run in which the error does not occur. The same steps are then repeated with a complex configuration where the error does appear. By varying the complex configuration in intermediate increments—using a binary‑search‑style narrowing—the cause of the error can be identified.

It’s difficult to do something like this, even if you consider it as a sorted array and that the search algorithm can be applied to this problem, you have to start from a clean system (factory reset), you can’t consider for example the removal of software equivalent to not having installed the software in the first place.

At least in one case the factory reset fixed the problem and the same complex configuration doesn’t crash anymore.

Here the problem is that most people are not willing to do a factory reset and we don’t have enough permissions to get the kernel messages when the crash happens. On an Android level we don’t get any related errors.

Heck! i don’t have Settings > Battery > Charging control on my phone.

There is no way, “Settings” is the gear on the homescreen grouped together with the updater icon.

Bumping this to keep it alive.

I really would like to be able to not have my phone randomly shut down for no reason at all.

It keeps happening.

Plamen said that the iodé team has detected the problem so you may get a fix with the official 7.2 update in some days but you can also try a factory reset.

Nice - I am still getting it regularly too, totally random, sometimes unattended, sometimes when in an app doing something.

P.S. There’s another bad side effect of the v7.x upgrade I’ve been meaning to post about - but still collating all symptoms - it’s screen responsiveness, it’s noticeably sluggish from v6.x, has a semi-unusable ‘swipe up’ action to close apps, and some other related touch interface stuff has deteriorated with the upgrade…

the crash and reboot is real, my auto-reboot is off, it happens very rarely to me probably because I turn off the device every day for many hours

Also reproduced on my end. Could be related to reboot. I created this issue earlier today: Sluggish/choppy UI when scrolling through some apps (#68) · Issues · ota / issue-tracker · GitLab Speaking with Vincent and trying to find a common pattern.

My iodé BraX3 did reboot on its own the other day again when it wasn’t being used. That is the phone I reset before. It seemed to only happen again that one time so no biggie but it is not 100% fixed yet.

A post was split to a new topic: Phone reboot no longer triggers SIM pin entry

My phone rebooted right when my alarm was supposed to go off according to my phone’s up time in the “about” screen. Therefore my alarm didn’t go off and when I woke up I had a “missed alarm” notification. First time this bug has caused a real problem for me, but fortunately it didn’t cause me to miss anything important this morning. I definitely need to be able to count on my alarm though!

Hoping this is fixed in 7.2 or the following update, and hoping that perhaps knowing this reboot was somehow (in this case) linked to my alarm helps understand the bug if it’s not clearly understood already.

I can see how that would be a problem. I also need an alarm to get me up-I could sleep all morning if nothing got me up! What I’ve started doing is my alarm is on my second Brax3 which now runs Ubuntu Touch and has problems with hardware (such as the SIM card) not being recognized but it is stable. It includes an alarm clock which is loud and gets me up right away!! :+1:

FWIW I always have a back up alarm set for various reasons. Set a duplicate alarm 15mins or so after your main one!

(That likely would have ensured your unscheduled reboot wouldn’t have been an issue, among other things…)

This morning my phone froze while playing a podcast, and then the screen went black, and it started vibrating nonstop. I forced a power off. Hopefully I’ll get 7.2 installed very soon.
