Trying to update from 6.3 to 7.0 (but no WIFI, and no mobile data)

Hi Everyone,

Could you suggest a way to update my phone?

I received my Brax3 last month. However, wifi did not work. So I inserted my SIM card, to try to use mobile data. About 2 MB got through, then it tappered to a trickle of bytes. So I suspect my phone carrier does not approve of my new phone.

What solution would you suggest? Is there a way to download the update to my computer and then transfer it to my phone, or some other way?

Should I try flashing another IMEI onto my BraX3? Then, after that, reinsert my SIM card and using mobile data to install the iode 7.0 update?

No, don’t flash a new IMEI number. Search this site for ā€œSide loadingā€ and that will give you the information to download the update to your computer, transfer it to your phone and then use the updater to install the update.

Check that your APN settings are correct so that you can have mobile data , they are in Settings > About Phone

The Updater has to be updated before the main update, those files can be transferred to the phone with a USB cable and run them as local updates.

You can also access the internet through a USB-C to Ethernet adapter like this one, SIMPLE instructions to update to latest version of iodƩOS on Brax3, please - #45 by dpourkesali

If you already have an adapter test it.

In case you update straight to 7.0 or through 6.9 you’ll need this update for the Updater, beta/UpdaterBetaIode6v3.apk Ā· master Ā· ota / ota Ā· GitLab , you download the file and open it, it will ask you to trust it for installation.

The actual iodeOS Over-The-Air updates are here, brax3 Ā· master Ā· ota / release Ā· GitLab , you need the *ota.zip files.

*ota.minisig are signatures for testing the integrity of the *ota.zip files

*ota.sha256 are checksums of the *ota.zip files for the same purpose

you can check those on your computer before copying the files through USB

After the iodeOS update you remove the update of the Updater, tap and hold on the

Updater icon > App Info > 3 dots upper right corner > remove update

Can you go from 6.3 straight to 7.0? I seem to remember a big change from 6.3 to 6.8. Might want to get that confirmed before you try to update straight to 7.0.

Hello @thing324,

I had a similar problem and was finally able to resolve it with the help of this forum. I’m new to the phone world [since I had no trust in the ā€œnormieā€ phones (phrase coined by Rob Braxman)], so I’m a total beginner in how to use one. I asked for a simple explanation to fix the no wifi issue and this is how I was able achieve that. Please see the following thread, starting with post #40 from @dpourkesali. I hope it helps you, too.

[ . . . Ummm, I’m not quite sure how this is done, how to link that post onto this post. So is it OK if I just copy and paste the URL of that conversation here? Or is there a simpler way? Sorry, I’m new to forum posting, too. If not, maybe you can search for the title of that post as seen in the link?]
