Brax3 not supported on AT&T

This is my first post. I received my Brax 3 today (ordered on 11/18/2024) along with 2 screen protectors (1 free) and case with camera shutter (paid for) and a clear plastic case. It appears to be a well built phone. I have connected it to my WiFi so have internet access. Works fast on fiber.

Took the phone to AT&T (my current carrier) to get a sim card and number. The AT&T person checked both IMEI numbers for both sim 1 and sim 2. They got a message that the phone was not supported on the AT&T network.

Now what? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Maybe try to activate yourself through the AT&T website? You may not get the message the employee did, and if you do, it would be very telling.

Thanks for your rapid reply 0x7. I just tried to add a line via att.com and got this error message.

Incompatible device

Your device is not compatible with the AT&T network.

I don’t really want to go to Tmobile since AT&T works best for my area. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Something you might try… that worked for me a while back…

I had a device (fairphone 4) on Mint (tmobile). I took an ATT sim that I activated on an old iPhone. I then swapped the sim to my FP4.

while I received an SMS message from ATT that my phone was not supported, the SIM still worked, and I was able to use the service.

I have not tried this on the Brax, but I thought I would share.

Getting a similar compatibility sim issue with Cricket. Does this mean Brax 3 phone is not compatible with Cricket Wireless? Is there anyway to resolve this issue. Error text from Cricket "This device is not compatible with Cricket Network. A compatible HD voice is required. To avoid service interruptions or potential reactivation fees, please immediately switch your SIM back to an HD Voice device that is compatible with the Cricket network. Questions? Visit 3G Network Shutdown | Great Big Network | Cricket Wireless "

This is the compatibility list of Brax 3, apparently, Braxtech is working with ATT and other carriers to update this phone to the carriers.

Thanks for sharing. I may give it a try.

I’m att and haven’t setup my phone yet, so this is good to see. I’ll be putting an existing, pre 5g sim into the phone that I’ve been hosting onto and using for years without issue. Going I don’t run into this problem.

I found an old deactivated AT&T sim card and put it into my Brax3. The phone recognized it as an AT&T sim but it didn’t connect to the network. Good luck with yours. A good phone but I need to keep trying to get it on AT&T’s network.

This might be a case where you could change the IMEI to a Pixel, and get on the network. I know I have heard Rob Braxman mention this option in several of his videos. There is also an article on here about how to change the IMEI. I think you just need to ask the Brax team how to obtain the correct number.

Thank you xancudo for this. Yes, I have heard Rob on many videos mention this possibility. I saw the article that you tagged. Unfortunately, I use a Mac and haven’t seen an article on how to use a Mac to accomplish that. I will reach out to the Brax team for help.

Yes, that is the one obstacle. I wish I had an easy answer for you. But there is an option.

I’m not sure of how technical you wish to get with it, but if you are familiar with VirtualBox or VMware for Mac (both are free), you can actually download a MS Windows 11 DEV edition VM (MS provides a 90 day trial), that drops right into either one of those (no building required). Once you have that you could run the tool, connect your BraX3 and possibly perform the change.

I do think I have heard Rob mention they can do that for you as a service.

I am old but willing to try something once. I have broken enough computers (crashed at least 3 hard drives in my career) and built wifi networks to at least understand some things. My IT team at work say I have “bad computer JuJu”.

I appreciate your advice. I did reach out to support and will see what they have to say.

I just received my new brax phones and we use cricket. I received the same error as you did from cricket in a sms message. What are my next steps ? changing IMEI ? Help would be appreciated.

As I see it. If you want to use them right now, get a sim from T-Mobile or another service that uses T-Mobile. If you are willing to wait, Rob has mentioned many times, in his Rumble videos, that they are negotiating with AT&T. If that doesn’t happen, you need to have the IMEI changed in order to use AT&T services or a service that uses AT&T.

US Mobile has been confirmed to activate using their AT&T (“Dark Star”) network, I think this is the first confirmed AT&T (or MVNO) that I know the brax3 is working with.

So not all hope is lost to use another carrier besides T-Mobile (and MVNOs) in the USA.

Thanks Rik. Maybe AT&T will see the error of their ways and decide to accept us Brax-ers.

I sent an email to [email protected] concerning AT&T not accepting our IMEIs. My assumption was that someone would respond. Instead, I got an email response referring me to the “community”. Does anyone know if members of the Brax team read these posts? I would hope they are aware of this situation. But, I would imagine that they are tied up responding to all of the inane questions of where’s my phone.

I saw a lot of posts that people got a tracking number but hadn’t received the phone yet. And they asked where the phone was. Don’t people realize that once the package goes to the shipper, the seller probably doesn’t or can’t track the item until it is delivered to the purchaser. Give the team a break. Try our US Postal System tracking and you will learn the lesson of patience.

They are tracking all USA carrier’s status here: BraX3 Telco Compatibility – United States

They indicate they are “in process” with AT&T. But again, US Mobile is ready now with your AT&T network needs. They can port your number, and I bet you will save a good amount of $$

Thanks again rik. I checked out US Mobile. Unfortunately, I can add a line to my AT&T account with unlimited everything for $25 per month. Hard to beat with US Mobile. In addition, it should be easier to forward phone calls and text messages within the same system. Unlike others, I am not in any rush and can wait.

At the moment Brax3 is not compatitble with Cricket, you may considered Mint (Tmobile), which include 10gb hotspot, unlimited data/messages/calls for $15 per month.
