Using maps in the car

Did you resolve this Haley? And presume you are on v6.7 for iodé?

That’s why you install the stubs (to trick AA into thinking the Google stuff is installed)… and why you also wouldn’t install Waze either (as it’s no more private than Google Maps).

Well we all did - at least the vast majority of us, and just fine too up until about 20 years ago (and many still do today)… 150 Years of Motor Vehicles, 130 of those Years without Google Maps and similar, and everyone still got to their destinations (even if it required using a paper map)…

Seems in the last 20 years we’ve lost the ability to even drive to the next street unaided, at least to some degree…
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

But, joking aside, the answer is earlier in this thread; if you need traffic input namely:

Otherwise the default coMaps or Organic Maps that it was forked from (I always used the latter int he past on my iPhone unless I was driving at rush hour into or out of town and had to have traffic info, FWIW):

Nope. still the same issue. :frowning:

I noticed that it actually works - as a dia show. Every minute one image update.
Something is definitely wrong.
Will get a new USB-C Cable and test with that - as I read some people had issues with that and that’s how they fixed it.

sorry to jump in that conversation.
But you all have the offline maps downloaded correct?

Did you try Gurumaps?
Or is there a problem with the text to speech ? or is there a problem wit the traffic information ?
For 5 years now, even if I am on Iphones, I only use offline maps to use in the car or military vehicles even. That includes even Tomtom app.

or is it a problem with the link between the phone and the interface of your car media system?

All of the above pretty much.

Depends on what you are trying to achieve, is it USB or Bluetooth, do you want TTS and STT or just TTS, do you want messages and such read out and voice assistant for composing and searching, etc…

You also want to look on the iodé community:

I will check on this on a longer period of time then after having changed the first problems which are already occurring on production units.

How much? Been waiting since 2024 to get my device. Wanna sell it? You’ll get it to me much faster than the corporate slog!

Hi Heidi, Possible..
It’s sitting on the shelf in its box.
I’m still using my old iPhone 11… mostly because it will talk to my Subaru Crosstrek.

I’d prefer to recover what I’ve paid out.

Subtotal $299.00 USD
Shipping (Canada) $15.00 USD
Indiegogo Tip $14.00 USD
Estimated Total $328.00 USD
Total paid $328.00 USD - - - $494.70 CAD
Plus they required me to also pay an “import fee” – something over $50.

Includes BraX3 Privacy Tampered Glass Screen Protector

  • and the BraX3 Rugged Privacy Phone Case

Let me know.

Hello LewisMtn,

Clarify what the IndieGoGo tip is? Never heard about a “tip” before to Indie go go
Curious. And I’m serious about this sevice

  • serious about this device

It’s the voluntary payment IndieGoGo try to push on every person who buys through the platform - it has nothing to do with the person selling or the project - it’s IndieGoGo themselves soliciting money and you don’t need to pay it - you can just skip or put $0 or whatever… I believe they get % commission from all the projects/sales anyway; so that’s just extra revenue they try to hoover up directly from people supporting projects…

DM me at [email protected]

I would like to say thank you to the folks on here with their suggestions. Unfortunately, there was NO WAY to make my new Brax3 talk with my Subaru Crosstrek. I tried everything. Someone offered to buy it from me, and reluctantly, I have agreed. It has cost me a fair bit of loss – but I guess that’s life… Anyway, thanks, folks.. I hope you have a better Brax experience than we did.
BTW, shipping from Canada to the USA, right now, is a total nightmare!!

I just tried android Auto in another car (recent one).
It worked there. It really seems to be an issue with the Android Auto release I have in my Nissan Qashqai

What did you actually test @Haley ? Did you test all functions?

I’ve been testing AA extensively, including with full unrestricted G apps present on my BraX3 and have been unable to get even a moderate level of functionality…

Basic AA connects and looks like its working but when you try and do anything it doesn’t work or freezes up or such like.

Basically I found some map apps work and have 90% functionality incl. simple TTS in some cases. Playing simple media works (music, podcasts); but everything else is highly unstable or buggy or doesn’t work at all (making/receiving calls; SMS or other basic messaging totally broken; othee apps basically unusable or non-functional; on screen navigation not fully functional with car controls, etc)…

e.g. any notification from phone, whether SMS, calendar or something else nearly always freezes up the AA vehicle screen and you need to disconnect to reset …

I tested everything. I still had to be connected through USB to have the display functions etc. But phone, sms etc. all worked on a 6month old AlphaRomeo SUV (rental car).
In my Private Nissan, none works. Only Bluetooth standard functionality.

My wife’s Samsung A54 could do it all over WiFi BTW.

Thanks Haley - that’s useful - yeah nothing I do works with my 2018 Mazda - I’ve used my iPhones in this vehicle (Car Play) for over 4½ years with no problem. I’ve extensively tried BraX3 and Pixel 8 Pro both with Stubs and alternative apps and with the official Google Apps and it steadfastly refuses to work (I still need to do more testing with the Pixel).

I tested with a spare Samsung A34 I had access to, and my Pixel 8 Pro prior to installing iodéOS, and both did all the standard stuff fine, and looked like they would do the full STT and TTS - if I was prepared to log into a Google Account and set up personal recommendations and have Google account connected to the device while I was using AA.

So I am a little bemused as to how some people get full functionality, and/or people get it in certain vehicles (like your case); without being logged into Google at the time and having the Google Digital Assistant active, etc… And even with all Google Apps installed and unrestrained (but not logged in), I can’t even read an SMS (I can see a new message is there, but it won’t open), let alone send one.
