1. Photos and group texts won’t send (MMS)
The most common question on the forum. Symptoms: photos stuck on “sending”, error code 5, group chats that never start, or pictures that arrive late or not at all.
Step 1: Lower the MMS size limit to 600 KB.
Community fix
In your messaging app, open Settings → Resize sent MMS images and choose 600 KB. “No limit” and 1 MB both fail for many owners. Error code 5 means the picture is too large.
Credit to @BobO (solution, error code 5), confirmed by @ruthless (#8), @Murrygreenlaw (#10) and @bruno (post).
Step 2: Turn on the group and long-message MMS options.
Community fix
In the same settings screen, switch on the options to send group messages and long messages as MMS. That, together with the 600 KB limit, fixed group texts for @bruno (post).
Step 3: Try a different SMS app.
Brax team
“Installing QUIK SMS (available in f droid) works as a workaround for most customers. Sometimes issue is related to a misconfigured APN. It’s also worth to verify it with your carrier.”
tech-support, Problem with receiving and sending photos
If QUIK doesn’t help, owners have also had success with Messages by Saalim Quadri (F-Droid) and Chomp SMS (@DanielD, @krog).
Step 4: Check the MMS part of your APN.
Brax team
Picture messages need the MMSC address and mms in the APN type, which are separate from what makes ordinary data work. If web browsing works but MMS doesn’t, this is the likely cause. Get the exact values from your carrier, then see section 2.
- On BraxSIM?
Community-reported: use the World Mobile APN, not T-Mobile’s. Name worldmobile, APNmobiledata, everything else blank. Restart afterwards. Credit to @Liberty (post). - Full working T-Mobile-network profile posted by @kdicksando (post).
Step 5: Mobile data on, Wi-Fi off.
Community fix
MMS travels over mobile data, not Wi-Fi. Make sure mobile data is switched on, and try once with Wi-Fi off (@hermit80).
Some people can’t text you at all? Coming from an iPhone?
Community fix
If your number is still registered with iMessage, messages from iPhone users can disappear. Deregister at Deregister and Turn Off iMessage - Apple Support , then restart the BraX3 (@the.finisher222).
Still stuck?
Brax team: call your carrier and ask them to check that MMS is enabled on your line and that your APN matches their current settings (tech-support).
Good to know: a de-Googled phone can’t use RCS (Google’s “chat” messaging), so large photos, videos and group chats with iPhone and Android users won’t behave the way they did on your old phone. For family group chats, many owners use Signal.
2. No mobile data, or “what is an APN?”
An APN (Access Point Name) is the setting that tells the phone how to connect to your carrier’s data network. A missing or wrong APN is the most common reason for no mobile data, no picture messages or “emergency calls only”.
Step 1: Call your carrier first.
Brax team
“For carrier issues, it’s always best to start by reaching out to your carrier, since they can access logs and determine the cause of the issue (whether it’s device related or on their end) instantly.”
tech-support, Help needed to regain Brax3 service
The same post gives two self-checks: compare your APN with your carrier’s published settings, and check that IMEI 1 and IMEI 2 both start with 35000216 (Settings → About phone). That is the genuine BraX3 range.
Step 2: Find your APN.
Community fix
Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → [your carrier] → Access Point Names (@droidkiwi).
The easiest source of correct values is your old phone: copy its APN exactly (@raajah, confirmed by the asker: “this seems to have fixed my problem!”).
Step 3: Don’t edit the APN. Delete it and create a new one.
Community fix
Editing an existing APN often doesn’t stick. Tap +, enter the carrier’s values, save, then select the new APN in the list (@Chilango, @SHolman).
Common mistakes
Community fix
- Proxy and Port must be blank on the main APN. Proxy details go only in MMS proxy and MMS port (@raajah, confirmed: “Horray! We are up and running!”).
- A ! next to the signal bars usually means mobile data is switched off.
- Typos in the MMSC address are easy to miss. Check it character by character.
Lost data after an OS update?
Brax team
“Sometimes APNs get flushed after an OS update.”
tech-support, Brax3 with BraxSim no cellular internet
Write your APN down before you update. If your carrier’s APN is missing from the list, open the APN screen and use ⋮ → Reset to default, then select your carrier’s entry again, or create it (Step 3).
Wi-Fi says “Connected / no internet access”?
Community fix
Settings → Network & internet → Connectivity check → Off, then disconnect and reconnect the Wi-Fi (@dragonav, confirmed: “IT WORKED!”).
3. Will the BraX3 work with my carrier?
Check the compatibility tracker for your region first (links at the top).
Brax team: the BraX3 is carrier unlocked, supports VoLTE and is approved on T-Mobile’s IMEI checker in the US (network details, T-Mobile approval). For any carrier not on the list, ask the carrier directly and give them the phone’s IMEI and network bands.
The carrier’s website says my phone is “not compatible” (mostly AT&T).
Community fix
AT&T’s online IMEI check rejects the BraX3 for new sign-ups, but the phone works on many AT&T-network plans once activated. Activate the SIM in another phone first, then move the SIM (or transfer the eSIM) to the BraX3 and set the APN:
“I took a sim from my Samsung and put it in the Brax 3 and it worked fine. Try that, set it up on your other phone, then switch sims or transfer the eSim if you can.”
@BobO, ATT says phone incompatible (also @raajah)
The US compatibility tracker lists the current status of each carrier and MVNO. Verizon’s network is not compatible.
Many carriers have an online device or IMEI checker. Enter the BraX3’s IMEI there before you buy a plan. If your carrier has no checker, ask them directly.
Keeping your number? Porting your existing number works the same as with any phone. Ask your old carrier for a transfer PIN.
4. Texts and data work, but calls don’t
Usually a voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) setting rather than a fault.
- Restart the phone.
Sometimes that’s all it takes (@RYarr). - Make sure VoLTE is on.
Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → [your carrier] → VoLTE (@raajah). Not every carrier shows this switch. - Set the IMS APN to IPv4.
In Access Point Names, open the IMS entry and change both APN protocol and APN roaming protocol to IPv4. Save and restart (@mrclmx, confirmed by @droidkiwi). - Calls stopped right after an OS update? Check that the update didn’t reset your APN (section 2), and make sure you’re on the latest OS version (section 5).
If none of this works, call your carrier: they can see whether your line is set up for VoLTE.
5. Updating the OS (stuck on 7.2 or 7.3)
Phone on iodéOS 7.2 and the Updater doesn’t offer anything newer?
Brax team
Brax moved OS updates from iodé’s servers to its own, so phones on 7.2 need a one-time fix:
- Long-press the Updater app → App info.
- Tap ⋮ (top right) → Uninstall updates.
- Open the Updater again and refresh. 7.3 will appear. Install it.
Source: tech-support, Iodé 7.6 (not beta) #12 and #2 here. Confirmed by @jdk11 (“That worked. Thanks!”, post) and @one-brx (post).
After 7.3, no more workarounds.
Brax team
Once you’re on 7.3, the Updater is connected to the new update server. From then on, just follow the steps in the Updater app to download and install newer versions. You don’t need to hunt down or manually install each version in between.
The Updater doesn’t find an update you know exists?
Brax team
You can always install an update manually: download the OTA file from download.os-source.co/brax3/iodeos/v7, copy it to the phone, then in the Updater use ⋮ → Local update (tech-support). Confirmed by @stanwood and @Lazarus (thread). Full guide: Manual install / update.
Still on iodéOS 6.x?
Brax team
You’ll need the iodé v7 updater first to reach 7.x, then follow the 7.2 steps above (tech-support).
Two downloads with the same version number?
Brax team
The second one is a hotfix. Install the newest and delete the other (tech-support). Beta releases come through a separate beta updater, and the normal Updater only shows stable releases (tech-support).
Before any update: write down your APN settings (section 2) and make sure the phone is on Wi-Fi and charged.
6. Apps: Aurora Store, banking apps and apps that need Google
The BraX3 has no Google Play Store. You install apps through Aurora Store (Google Play apps, without a Google account) and F-Droid (open-source apps).
Do I have to sign in to Aurora with Google?
No. Use the anonymous login. If Aurora keeps asking for Google, restart the phone and open it again (@f1ipcityusa).
Aurora says “Server busy” or won’t download. ![]()
Sign out in Aurora’s settings, restart the phone and sign back in anonymously (@guardian241, @Ironman). If that fails, force-stop Aurora and clear its storage (not just the cache) (@iamjeeves). These outages are often on Google’s side and clear up within a day or two.
“This app isn’t available for your device.”
Brax team
“What I do if I get a message in Aurora store that the app isn’t available on my device, I use their spoof manager feature.”
plamen, Airline apps not allowed on device
Aurora → Settings → Spoof manager, then pick a different device.
An app installs but says “network failure” or won’t log in.
Brax team / ![]()
Check the iodé app first. Its firewall or blocker set to enhanced/reinforced can block an app’s connection, and relaxing it for that app fixed it for @jeep (post, confirmed by tech-support). The same setting stopped the iodé F-Droid client loading apps for @Nersplitch (post).
No notifications from an app.
Enable push notifications for it in microG settings (@mark17).
An app (often a bank app) requires the Google Play Store.
Brax team
The Play Store can’t be installed on the BraX3, and that requirement can’t be bypassed. If the app only needs a one-time check (such as age verification), complete it on another device, then sign in on the BraX3 (tech-support). Otherwise, use the service’s website in the browser, which is what many owners do.
7. eSIM and BraxSIM
Before anything else, update to the latest OS.
Brax team. The BraX3 supports eSIM, and many eSIM installation problems are fixed in newer OS versions (tech-support).
BraxSIM shows an error right after you install it?
Brax team (from the Brax Mobile team)
“It doesn’t register the SIM initially and gives and error. But leave it alone and come back later like half an hour and it is initialized.”
tech-support, post
How do I know the eSIM is working?
Look for mobile signal in the status bar, then turn Wi-Fi off and open a web page (tech-support).
Other things that have worked
Add the eSIM through your carrier’s own app rather than the phone’s built-in flow, then restart (@BobO).- Ask your carrier to check that the eSIM profile is active on their side, or to issue a new QR code.
You can install several eSIMs, but only one can be active at a time. Switch between them in the SIM settings and restart (@BobO).
For BraxSIM account, plan or QR-code questions, contact BraxSIM support.
8. I cracked my screen or rear glass. Can I buy a part?
Not yet: spare parts aren’t sold in the store at the moment. Instead:
Brax team
- If the phone itself is damaged (cracked screen or cracked rear glass), Brax replaces the device free of charge. You pay only the shipping: sending the damaged phone back, and shipping the replacement to you.
- To start, email [email protected]. They’ll send the return instructions.
Source: tech-support, Screen Replacement and Screen cover replacement options.
Screen protectors
- A cracked screen protector is not covered by warranty
. The privacy screen protector and rugged case are sold in the Brax store (screen protector, rugged case). - New BraX3s come with a screen protector already fitted.
- For other brands, match the BraX3’s 6.56″ display
(tech-support). Owners suggest protectors made for the T-Mobile REVVL 7 5G or the Nokia G400 5G (@J.D.Laub, @Lazarus)
.
Cases: besides the Brax rugged case, the OtterBox Commuter Lite for the Nokia G400 5G fits about 95% (@BobO)
.
SIM tray stuck or missing?
A jammed SIM tray is covered by warranty. Submit a claim at my.braxtech.net (tech-support). For a lost tray, email [email protected].
9. Returns, warranty and replacements
Use the customer portal: my.braxtech.net.
Brax team
- Enter the email address you ordered with. You’ll get a sign-in link by email.
- Open My Orders, choose the item and start a return or warranty claim.
- Follow the instructions you receive by email.
“You can request a return via my.braxtech.net. The day the device lands in our return location we ship a new one. Time will really depend on your location. Within the US shipping one way takes about 3 days on average.”
tech-support, Unable to eject SIM tray
Hardware faults are handled the same way. If the portal gives an error, or your case doesn’t fit the form, email [email protected].
For accidental damage (cracked screen or glass), see section 8.
10. Orders and delivery
The tracking says “failed delivery” or “return to sender”.
Brax team
Usually the courier couldn’t match the address or reach you. Contact the courier with your tracking number to confirm the address, or email [email protected] with your corrected delivery details so the order can be reshipped (tech-support, example).
Please don’t post your address, phone number or order number on the forum. It’s public. Email support instead.
11. More quick answers
Hotspot
- Other devices can’t connect: in hotspot settings, change security from WPA3 to WPA2, then turn the hotspot off and on again
(@Hesit8or). - Seeing or blocking connected devices isn’t built into iodéOS. Third-party apps such as VPN Hotspot can do it
(tech-support).
Battery and charging
- Every BraX3 has a 5,000 mAh battery. Some diagnostic apps report it wrongly. Check Settings → Battery → Battery info
(tech-support). - The BraX3 can’t charge while it powers a USB device (keyboard, dock, drive). This is a hardware limit
(tech-support).
Boot loop
- The fix is reinstalling the OS with SP Flash, using the package Brax hosts rather than a version from elsewhere
(tech-support). - Avoid “Format All + Download”: it can erase your IMEIs (@Nibbana). Write down both IMEIs (on the box) before you start.
- If reflashing doesn’t bring the phone back, Brax will replace it
(tech-support). Not comfortable flashing? Email support first.
Before you post a new question
You’ll get a faster answer if you include:
- OS version: Settings → About phone
- Carrier and country, and whether you use a physical SIM or eSIM
- What changed before the problem started (a new SIM, an OS update, a new app)
- What you’ve already tried from this page
